Getting Started

Hubs is an open source, web-based, metaverse platform comprised of various different instances, each with their own rooms, scenes, and avatars. To get started, you have a few options:

  1. Set up your own Hubs instance yourself.
    • You can consult the Beginner’s Guide for CE to get started setting up your own Hubs instance.
    • See the What’s Next? guide for tips, maintenance instructions, and optional improvements once your basic instance is set up.
    • If you run into problems, you can check the Troubleshooting FAQs for solutions/advice.
  2. Have someone set up a Hubs instance for you.
    • You can join the Hubs Discord and look through the Job Board channel for people offering their services.
  3. Subscribe to a managed service offering Hubs instances.
    • There aren’t many right now, but you should be able to find some in the Hubs Discord. The Job Board channel is a good place to start.
  4. Join a community run instance.
    • Visit the Co-op CE Instances Board channel in the Hubs Discord to find like minded people and go in on a Community Edition instance together or find one that’s already up and running that you can support. USE AT OWN RISK!

Note: The Hubs Foundation simply provides the opportunity for users to connect via the Job Board and Co-op CE Instances Board channels and doesn’t endorse any of the posts.

Once you have a Hubs instance, you’ll want to import content to it.

You can visit the links below to browse content that has been made available on the Hubs Foundation’s official instance.

To import the content, right click on the asset you would like and select “Copy Link” or “Copy Link Address”.
At your Hubs Admin Panel, Import Content, paste the copied link into the “Avatar or Scene URLs or .pack file” field.
Select “Preview Import”.
Configure the import settings. Unselect or select checkboxes for “Set to Default” and “Featured” for scenes and “Set to Default”, “Set to Base” and “Featured” for avatars.
Select “Import 1 Item”.
Repeat for each asset you want to import.

Note: If you left-click one of the assets and it takes you to the lobby of the Hubs room you will need to close that tab and re-open the browser from here.

Please visit the Hubs Discord for additional guidance. The community there is happy to help answer questions.
